API 5L Standard-Specification for welded and seamless steel pipe for pipeline transportation systems petroleum and natural gas industries
Specifications for API 5L adhere to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 3183,standardizing pipeline transportation systems within the materials, equipment and offshore structures for natural gas, petroleum, and petrochemical industries. When authoring the standards, the technical committee recognized that there are two basic Product Specifications Levels (PSL) of technical requirements and therefore developed PSL 1 and PSL 2. PSL 1 is a standard quality for line pipe where PSL 2 contains additional chemical, mechanical properties, and testing requirements.
Grades covered by API 5L specification are A25,A,B and “X”Grades X42,X46,X52,X56,X60,X65,X70,X80.The two digit number following the “X” indicates the Minimum Yield Strength (in 000’s psi) of pipe produced to this grade.
API 5CT Standard – Specification for casing and tubing
API 5CT is standard technical specifications for steel casing and tubing pipes used for oil wells in petroleum and natural gas industries.API 5CT steel casing and tubing pipes are mainly used for drilling oil,gas and water wells and conveying oil,gas and water.
API 5CT standard specifies the technical delivery conditions for steel pipes(casing,tubing,and pup joints),coupling stock,coupling material,and accessory material,and establishes requirements for three product specification levels (PSL-1, PSL-2, PSL-3). The requirements for PSL-1 are the basis of this standard.The requirements that define different levels of standard technical requirements for PSL-2 and PSL-3, for all grades except H-40, L-80 9Cr, and C110, are provided.
For pipes covered by this standard,the sizes, masses,and wall thicknesses,as well as grades and applicable end-finishes, are provided. API 5L pipe may be ordered as casing in accordance with API 5C6.
By agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer, this standard can also be applied to other plain-end pipe sizes and wall thicknesses. The products to which this standard is applicable include the following grades: H40, J55, K55, N80 all types, L80 all types, C90, R95, T95, P110, C110, and Q125.
This standard is applicable to the following connections in accordance with API Spec 5B:
short round thread casing (STC);
long round thread casing (LC);
buttress thread casing (BC);
extreme-line casing (XC);
non-upset tubing (NU);
external upset tubing (EU);
integral joint tubing (IJ).
